Dr Karen Willmer is our very own fully accredited Veterinary Acupuncturist, holding a Certificate in Veterinary Acupuncture (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society). Acupuncture is an ancient medicine, using the insertion of needles to stimulate specific points on the body to balance energies and produce a healing effect. Acupuncture can be used as a primary form of treatment for many conditions, or in conjunction with other medicines.
The most common conditions treated in clinic have been musculoskeletal (bone and muscle) problems in small animals, but many conditions respond well to acupuncture. Karen is also formally trained in Reiki – a ‘natural therapy’ applied through a non-invasive gentle touch, aiming to increase energy levels. She is knowledgeable in massage and physiotherapy, natural herbs and homeopathies, and can dispense Chinese herbs following full clinical examination.
